Websites for independent shops: built to bring people through the door
People nearby want to know you are open, what you sell and how to reach you, not to order online. We build the site around those questions, then get it found on Google Maps and recommended by AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.

What does a website for an independent shop need?
Not an online shop: the right opening hours, what you sell aisle by aisle, a quick way to ask if you have something, and directions at the end of every page. Then the monthly work that gets you found nearby: local SEO, a complete Google Business Profile and being named by AI tools.

Why do good local shops lose customers online?
People come over after we've shut because Google still shows our old hours.
They find a locked door, leave a bad review and do not try again.
Everyone asks if we've got it, but we can't list thousands of things online.
Without an answer they assume you won't have it and order online instead.
Search near me and the chains and big DIY sheds come up, not us.
Locals who would happily walk to you never learn you are there.
Our hours and news live on Facebook, and half our customers aren't on it.
People see different hours on Google, the website and Facebook, and stop trusting any of them.
Mostly people nearby, plus visitors passing through
Your best customers live close enough to walk or drive in, so you need to show up nearby and on Google Maps with the right hours. In a market, coastal or historic town, holiday visitors from other countries look for gift shops, delis and local finds too, often on a phone in the street.
Nearby
Customers who can get to you, or you to them. Found by service and place.
Across the country
Customers anywhere in the country. Found by specialism, not by town.
From abroad
Customers in other countries, searching in their own words. Found by specialism and by trust.
What they type into Google and ChatGPT:
What makes someone walk in instead of driving to the chain
People want to know you are open, you are real and you can sort what they need before they set off.
The right hours, everywhere
The same hours on Google, the website and the door, holidays included.
Reviews that mention the help
Real reviews about friendly advice, plus your food hygiene rating if you sell food.
Real photos of the shop
The shopfront, the aisles and the people behind the counter.
Ask before they come
A quick WhatsApp or call to check you have it or can order it in.

What does a footfall website look like in real life?
Cricklade Hardware, an independent hardware shop on a Wiltshire high street, wanted more local people through the door, not orders from across the country. Its site shows which aisle something would be in, never claims stock, and sends anything else to Ask Paul on WhatsApp.

Independent shop website questions
Do I need an online shop?
Not if your aim is footfall. A shop website can show what you sell, aisle by aisle, and turn anything else into a quick WhatsApp or call, with directions and a map at the end of every page. Cricklade Hardware works this way, with no online shop by design.
Can people see what I have in stock?
They can see what you sell without you keeping a stock list up to date. A search bar can say which aisle or page covers what someone typed, without claiming it is on the shelf, and anything not listed becomes a WhatsApp message with the question already written.
How do I get found by people nearby?
A page for each thing people nearby look for, such as a service you offer, a brand you stock or a seasonal range. Your name, address, phone and hours written the same way everywhere, and a complete Google Business Profile. That is what local searches and AI tools read.
Does my Google Business Profile matter as much as my website?
Yes, and they work together. Many people check your hours and directions on Google first, then tap through to see what you sell. If the two say different things, people stop trusting both, so we fix the profile and keep it matching the site.
How much does a website for an independent shop cost?
Kickstart is £650, paid up front: your website redesigned, your Google Business Profile fixed and 3 months of SEO. We design first, you approve within 7 working days, then you pay and we connect your domain. £650 builds it, then £350 a month keeps it working, or you stop and keep the site. Found runs on 12 months.
How long until more people come in?
Calls and clicks start to build from around month 3, rankings over months 4 to 6, and AI tools over months 3 to 6 or more. Google decides the rankings. We do the work that earns them, every month.
