Edit your own website with a simple CMS, no developer needed
A lot of people ask the same thing before they sign: what if I want to change something later and I do not want to pay a developer? This is the answer.
We can build you a CMS, which is a secure login and a simple editor, so you can change the words, images, prices and opening hours on your own website yourself. We build it for you on the back end, you own it, and it is priced separately: £500 on top of the website price. If you never change anything, you do not need one.
Prices are a starting point in GBP and depend on scope. You get one fixed price in writing after a free 20-minute call.
What you can change yourself
Words and headings
Change any text on your pages, from a price to a whole paragraph.
Images
Swap or add photos without touching any code.
Prices and opening hours
The details that change most often, in one place.
New pages or posts
If you want to add pages, news or a blog, we build that into the editor from the start.
How it works
We agree which parts of the site you will edit, such as prices, text or photos.
Only the parts you will really use, so it stays simple instead of becoming a control panel full of buttons.
We walk you through it when we hand it over, and we build it simple on purpose.
The code, the editor and the data are yours, like everything else we build. It stays with you.
Do you actually need one?
Maybe not. There are three ways to change a hand-coded website later. First, ask us: changes after launch are included on any monthly retainer. Second, take the code to any developer, because the code is yours in a private repository you own. Third, edit it yourself with a CMS. Most people who change their site often choose the third.
What it costs
£500 on top of the website price, for a standard editor with a secure login. Bigger editors, such as bookings or a shop, are quoted by scope. You get the price in writing before we start.
Questions, answered
Is this WordPress?
No. Your site is hand-coded and the editor is built by us for your site, with only what you need. If you specifically want WordPress, we can build on it, and we will tell you honestly what that means for speed and upkeep.
Do I own the CMS?
Yes. Once the final invoice is paid, the code, the editor and the data are yours. Hosting and domain fees are paid by you directly.
What if I do not want to edit anything myself?
Then you do not need one. You can ask us for changes on a monthly retainer, or take the code to any developer.
How much does it cost?
It is £500 on top of the website price for a standard editor. Anything bigger is quoted before we start.
Will I need training?
We walk you through it when we hand it over, and we build it simple on purpose, so most people are comfortable quickly.
Will a website on its own bring in more sales?
On its own, rarely. A website is one part of the outcome you actually want, which is more enquiries, sales and revenue. It also needs tracking so you can see what works, a way for people to find it, and follow-up so enquiries are not lost. We scope the whole outcome, not just the pages.
Can I run ads to my new website?
Yes, but only once tracking is in. Never send ad traffic to a site with no Meta pixel and no tags, because you cannot see who came, what they did or who to show it to next, so the money is wasted. Our guide to pixels before ads explains why, and our website and SEO pack includes the tracking.
